CROSSWIRE OVERVIEW

Crosswire has been developed to meet the needs of small to large scale two-way radio fleets and allows for multiple dispatchers, even remotely connected to the radio system. Crosswire does not require dedicated hardware at the dispatch station and therefore enables the control of the radio network from any location that offers a secure WAN connection to the Crosswire server co-located with the radio network.

This enables complete operational flexibility without the use of office based two-way radios and provides greater options in disaster recovery scenarios. Crosswire can also connect different radio network types making it the ideal platform to consolidate diverse systems or as a tool to provide consistency during technology migration.

At its core is a sophisticated server application that manages call and data traffic in analogue, DMR Tier II and DMR Tier III radio systems. Crosswire provides full voice dispatch functionality, audio & event recording, Short Data Messaging (SDM) and integrated GPS location services.

KEY FEATURES

User Interface

The graphical user interface is highly configurable to suit the needs of the individual dispatcher. Radio system functionality, screen layout and colour personalisation can be defined for a specific user logon. This means that dispatch screens are specific to a users role and responsibilities.

Voice Dispatch

Crosswire supports all call types within the two-way radio system. For DMR Tier II and III, all system configured group, individual (private) and broadcast calls are supported. Multiple group calls can be monitored at the same time and the dispatcher audio can be setup to playout at different levels depending on voice channel monitored or from different speakers. This allows the dispatcher to discern key voice communications easily whilst still monitoring multiple groups.

Emergency Calling & Alerting

Tier III supports prioritisation of emergency calls and when triggered, Crosswire provides a clear visual and audible notification of an alert. The radio system and terminals can be configured to support mandown & loneworker features and allow for open microphone at the radio terminal, allowing communications even if the user is incapacitated. In an emergency alert situation, Crosswire requires a two step process to acknowledge and clear the emergency.

Messaging

The DMR supports short data messaging and allows Crosswire to provide free form text messaging to the radio terminals. Pre-defined messages can also be configured for regular actions or tasks. Messages can be sent to groups or individuals easily and quickly via the Crosswire user interface.

Integrated Mapping Dispatch

Crosswire includes mapping and location based dispatch features within the core application. This provides a far greater level of integration between the radio system and the dispatcher operation.

Dispatchers are able to immediately view locations of GPS enabled radio terminals and initiate call functions directly from the map. This is a far more intuitive way of managing the radio fleet, providing a clear visual representation of locations and better management of emergency events.

Crosswire with integrated mapping also allows for multiple external map sources to be used including customer specific sourced data. Mapping sources can be layered allowing a variety of mapping information to be shown. For example, ArcGIS can be used for display of physical assets, with an OpenStreetMap overlay showing streets and addresses.

Geofences

Crosswire supports comprehensive Geofencing capability. Crosswire users can define multiple geofences using comprehensive in map drawing tools. Drawing tools include circles, rectangles and free form polygons. Geofences can have user defined labels and a sophisticated task management engine allows pre-defined actions to be triggered on geofence entry and exit.

Tasks include:
  • Play a pre-recorded audio file or tone pattern
  • Automatic SDM to an individual radio – the dispatcher will have audit trail visibility in the message history.
  • Activation/ Deactivation of console driven Loneworker

Console Lone Worker

Crosswire provides a console managed loneworker function included as a key feature of the mapping functionality. This automatically activates or deactivates when a terminal breaches a geofence boundary. Loneworker provides a 2 step process with configurable timing parameters. At the end of the first timer, a response from the radio user is prompted. If no response is received within the second timer window, an emergency alert is established, providing visual and audible signals to the dispatcher.

This feature is a fantastic option for improving worker safety and being fully automated, does not require the radio user to activate loneworker on their radio.

Voice & Event Recording

All radio traffic is recorded to hard drive and available for instant playback. Crosswire shows a pre-defined number of recent audio recordings within the user interface and also stores all recording history on the server (or elsewhere on the customer's IT network). All radio related events, such as radios registering and deregistering on the radio network are also available. Audio and other event recording provides a very clear audit trail should historical data be required.

Task Scheduler

Crosswire includes a highly flexible and configurable tool for management of pre-defined tasks. Tasks can be pre-recorded audio files or short data messages that are activated via a specific panel in the user interface or on geofence breach. Task actions can be configured for interval and duration allowing the dispatcher to enable or disable a pre-determined pattern to be played automatically. As examples, tasks can be used for playout of blast or emergency tones at a mine site, an alert to personnel entering a restricted site area or for automating a dispatcher busy response.
